Week 5

The pace has really picked up this week as we work hard on our speeches, our maths knowledge unit, practice for the spelling bee and maintain our usual focus on reading and topic work.
In case you missed our assembly item on Thursday, follow this link to a folder with 2018 videos in it. The bottom 3 feature some of the ukulele songs we performed, plus Nikita's solo, and Willow and Porshia's instrumental item.

Week 3 and 4

Over the past two weeks we have had quite a sporting focus, with the year 5s off to the Netball Tournament, and the school cross country.

We have started our calendar art, and our Mandarin lessons continue on Wednesday mornings.

Last week we heard from Brando Yellavich - the author of Wild Boy.

Another week of interesting activities in Room 8, and next week promises to be just as busy.
This week, on Thursday, our year 6 students attended the Clued Up Kids Safety Programme at the Cross Recreation centre, along with all other year 6 students in the district. They learned about safety around water, fires, animals, bikes and so on.

We were also thrilled to welcome Rosemary back to Room 8 this week! Rosemary will be with us for 7 1/2 weeks before she returns to Japan.

This term our water focus is going to lead us into Social Sciences, where we look at water as a precious resource and consider those people who do not have easy access to clean, fresh water.

We learned about an orphanage in Uganda, Africa, where they are trying to raise money to collect the rain water from their tiny dairy shed. At present these people have to carry 20 litres of water, up hill, per cow, every day. We found out just how heavy 20 litres of water is!

We considered how we might get involved and help raise money for spouting and a tank. Mrs Reid is visiting this orphanage in the October holidays.

We are going to start our fundraising next week in the form of a spelling bee that spans 4 weeks.  This begins on Monday.

Last week of term 3

We are over half way! Our walk on Friday was lots of fun. We had 118 students, 15 adults and 3 dogs, and we all walked 8 km. That's a to...
